There is a Mythology that during the summer of 1845 Karl Marx and Frederich Engels were chased across Salford for breaking street lamps following a drink fueled evening discussing Engels’ book The Condition of the Working Class in England.

Hexadecathlon is a series of solo shows in quick succession over the summer of  2025. There will be 16 exhibitions each installed documented and reviewed over three months. One by one Division of Labour will then release installation photographs, exhibition texts, reviews and worklists, editions and any other documentation over the following 16 months.

Faced with the worst art market since the 2008 crisis in capital, rising costs and rampent disaster capitalism, like society at large, artists are also realising the new conditions of the ‘market correction’ the ‘market slump’ .

We ask how does the current gallery format performs for the artist; the rotation and wait for solo shows, disperate artfair appearences and sporadic critique. Hexadecathlon hopes to condense a period of traditional exhibition time, producing 16 shows all with a review and documentation.

It’s a sprint and a marathon.
